This is how it works: Buy clothes in the right baby sizes
Is your baby due soon and you're not sure what baby sizes they need? Or would you like to make new parents happy with a gift for the birth? Whether it's baby clothes as a gift or for your own little one, it's often not easy to choose the right size. Our baby size chart gives you a good overview. Find out here what else you need to consider with baby sizes and which points of reference you can use as a guide.
Baby sizes - age and body length are decisive
- Most baby sizes are based on body length measured in centimetres. For example, you will find the size 62 cm on the label. This means that the garment usually fits babies with a body length between 57 and 62 cm well. For headwear, the head circumference in cm is usually decisive.
- However, the label may also have an age indication such as 0 to 3 months. In this case, you can assume that the garment will fit most babies of this age. Baby sizes according to age can generally provide a good guide. However, it should be noted that babies grow at different rates.
A good guide: baby size chart
If you want to buy baby clothes, a size chart is the best guide. In most cases, there are three columns. The first indicates the age of the baby, whereby the clothing sizes usually refer to the months of life. The second column lists the regular body length that babies have on average at this age. The last column then shows you the appropriate dress size. A distinction is often made between boys and girls in the baby size chart, as the average size by age also depends on gender.

Tip
Because of the diaper, you can buy baby pants or rompers one size larger. That way, your baby can move easily in them.

It's better to get two sizes for newborns
Your baby will soon be on its way and you've probably already imagined what it will look like.
Although your gynecologist can give you an estimate, it will remain a surprise until you meet your baby for the first time how big and heavy it will be. For this reason, it is advisable to choose two baby sizes for the first outfit. Most babies fit a size 50 or 56 after birth.
