Back to School: Everything for the perfect start
The start of the school year is an exciting time – for you and your kids. To make sure everything goes smoothly, whether it's their first day or the start of a new grade, here you'll find tips on everything that's important for learning.

Packed with knowledge: the right school bag
The perfect school bag is the most important accessory for the start of the school year. After all, your child will be carrying it on their back every day, transporting all their school materials. That's why it shouldn't just look cool, but also be extra ergonomic. School bags that meet the DIN 58124 standard fulfil safety requirements in terms of visibility and have an ergonomic design. Padded, easily adjustable straps, a back-friendly rear panel, as well as reflectors and fluorescent material are a must. Choose a model that is the same width as your child's shoulders and sits correctly on their back. Also, make sure the bag weighs no more than 1.5 kilograms. Lots of pockets and compartments help to keep things tidy. Since your child has to feel comfortable with their bag, they should have the final say: it's best to try out a few different models together.

What goes in the school bag?
Before school starts, it's time for a shopping trip. Besides basics like pencil cases, notepads, exercise books, rulers and so on, each class has different requirements for school supplies. You'll often only find out at the start of the school year whether you need a set square, compass, or special exercise books. However, you can also ask other parents and prepare in advance. This gives you plenty of time to get everything without any stress. Write a checklist so you don't forget anything. Just as important are break-time essentials like a water bottle and a lunch box. Look for easy-to-clean, durable materials – as children are naturally a bit rough with their things.

Ready for back to school?
Before the big day arrives, it’s a good idea to do a practice run: pack the school bag together and decide where everything should go. The rule is: heavy items as close to the back as possible, and light items in the outer pocket. Make sure that only the school supplies needed for the day are in the bag. The less weight your child has to carry, the better. That's why it's worth establishing an evening routine where your child packs their bag for the next day. Do this together at first until the timetable is memorised. A quick check of the school bag before leaving is also a good idea. As a memory aid, you can create a packing timetable together, listing all the items needed for each day. Why not turn it into a fun DIY project? It will also help get everyone excited for the big day!
