Enjoy a bug-free summer – with smart insect protection

Hey summer, you're finally here. We've missed you – the warm evenings on the veranda, freshly squeezed lemonade, ice lollies. There's just one thing we could do without: all the creepy crawlies in our homes. Mosquitoes, flies, wasps and ants everywhere. Outside? Yes please! Inside? No thank you! But how do you gently get the message across to these uninvited guests? It's simple: with reliable insect protection.

The benefits of an insect screen

Insect screens and similar products are a must-have during the warm months. They make life easier in an instant.

1. Sleep better

Are annoying buzzing sounds and nightly mosquito bites ruining your sleep? A reliable insect screen ensures quiet, restful summer nights – keeping those little troublemakers outside.

2. Good for your health

Say goodbye to itchy bites and nasty swelling! A screen keeps the little pests at bay and also minimises the risk of allergic reactions.

3. Go chemical-free

Insect sprays pollute the air in your home and leave chemical residues on furniture and fabrics. Fly screens for windows and doors are the smart, completely chemical-free alternative for a healthier home environment.

4. Keep it clean

Insects can leave unsightly marks on walls, lamps and window panes. With an insect screen, your home stays clean – and your food and refreshing summer drinks are safe from hungry wasps.

5. Ideal for rented homes

Good news: insect screens and the like are also welcome in rented homes – especially the no-drill kind. With clever adhesive, Velcro, magnetic or clamp systems, these helpful solutions can be installed in your home without a drill. It’s not only quick, easy and convenient, but also residue-free. Simply remove, clean, and you're done.

And don't forget: Your food will also benefit from a good insect screen. Finally, no more wasps in your homemade lemonade!

2. Fixed frame screens

For standard-sized windows and doors, fixed frame screens are an ideal solution – sturdy frames that come with the insect screen already fitted. Not only do they have a high-quality look, but they are also easy to install and remove. But which fixed frame screen is the best fit for your home?

• Plastic frames: The lightweight champion of insect screens – quick to assemble and perfect for standard sizes, especially the pop-up screen. Simply clip it in and you're done.

• Adjustable Aluminium Frames: Need flexibility without the fuss? Telescopic aluminium frames offer both. In just a few simple steps, you can adjust them to fit your windows and doors – with no drilling or sawing required. Everything you need for assembly is already included. No extra materials necessary.

• Custom-Fit Aluminium Frames: Want a fly screen that fits like a glove? Grab your tools and customise the frame systems to your individual windows and doors. It might take a little more effort, but the result is a more precise fit. Perfect for non-standard sizes and tricky installation situations.

Please note: When it comes to fly screens, getting the measurements right is key. Before you buy, make sure to measure the exact size of your window or door – both length and width. This is especially important if you have built-in roller shutters. The roller boxes and guide rails must not obstruct the screen, otherwise your insect protection might get in the way.

3. UV Light Insect Traps

You don't always have to rely on classic insect screens for your doors and windows. For a change, how about an electric helper like a UV trap? The principle is simple: they use UV radiation to imitate natural sunlight. This is irresistible to insects, just like the famous saying "like moths to a flame". They quickly fly towards the light and are caught in the trap.

The dos and don'ts of insect protection

A bug-free home that also looks good? Of course, it's no problem with these tips and tricks.

Dos

Fine-mesh screens: The finer the mesh, the fewer insects in your home. You can keep mosquitoes out with a mesh size of 1.1 to 1.5 millimetres, but for smaller pests like fruit flies, it should be even finer.

Don't forget skylights: Many an uninvited insect can sneak in through them – so be sure to install fly screens.

A clean job: Pollen, dirt and dust can quickly get caught in the mesh. This obstructs your view and airflow. But don't worry: with water and a brush, you can get the screen clean again in no time.

Two is better than one: Combine fly screens with electric UV traps.

Don'ts

Cleaning with too much water: Moisture on the screen not only damages the fine material, but also creates an ideal breeding ground for mould.

Less is more? Not with fly screens. If the balcony door is sealed, they'll just come in through the tilted kitchen window.

Location is everything: UV insect traps should not compete with the room's lighting.
